Painting Peonies (part II)

After moving into a new home, and spending 3 weeks in Argentina where many awesome landscapes stirred inspiration for my next painting idea, I finally finished the peony/flower painting!

At the advice of a fellow artist (Josh) who shared the studio with me at the time, I blocked the background with a solid marine-green color to accentuate the foreground flowers more. I also decided to add a fallen leave in the corner, although at first try it resembled a snail, so I fixed it using different angled brush stroke and hues. I think it completes the picture well.

I’m excited about what I see in the end, even though it turned out different than how I envisioned when I put down the first stroke of paint. I guess that’s why art is so captivating to me! Now this just needs a nice frame.
